Most of us want to look as young and as vital as we can for as long as we can. We diet and exercise to maintain our figures, apply creams to smooth our skin, dyes to color our hair and use a host of additional products to correct — or at least hide — numerous other signs of aging. Ironically, what many people ignore in their efforts to appear more youthful is one of the features that can most reveal our true age or can even make us look older than we are.
Teeth that show obvious signs of wear and/or discoloration (yellowing) are age-inducing and an eye-opening study by Oral B reveals just how strong the link is between looking younger and the condition of our smiles. Researchers for the dental firm showed 2,000 people a photo of a model with a perfect smile and asked each to guess her age. Then, they showed a picture of the same model with her teeth digitally worsened and solicited a second guess of her age.
The results were astounding. Participants placed the age of the woman with the awesome smile at 31, while her poor-mouthed twin was thought to be 44. That’s a full 13-year difference! If you have damaged or discolored teeth just think about the fact that they are skewing your appearance 13 years older every single day. All the crow’s feet cream in the world can’t do anything to address that.
On the other hand, cosmetic dentistry, including ZOOM! Teeth Whitening, Invisalign braces, porcelain veneers, crowns and implants, can make a world of difference.
If your teeth are in poor shape because you avoid treatment due to dental anxiety, sedation dentistry will allow you to rest easy throughout the entire process. You never have to choose between a brilliant smile and emotional comfort again.
